Dear friends, sorry not to have been here in so long, but I did, as you may have guessed, read a book. As you know, I’m somewhat of a slow reader, and this is largely because my old age vision problems have been getting the best of me. I hope my eyes keep working for the rest of my life, as I do so delight in them. I love books so very much, and I’ve got an eye appointment coming up in January that hopefully will make my love of books a little more manageable.
So what did I read? A book for children, but a very good and timely one, as usually is the case with children’s literature. I read: The Ickabog, by J. K. Rowling. You really should go to your library and check this one out and read it. It probably won’t take you as long as it took me for you to complete it, I promise. I was primarily only reading at lunch break, but the conclusion drew me in and I gobbled it up. It was just so good!
One thing that makes this book so wonderful, is that it is accompanied with illustrations made by children from around the world, depicting the events of the story. I know! It made me so happy, even when the events of the story may have been a little troubling. In fact, after I completed the novel, I followed the reproduction of the illustrations that introduced the young artists and essentially reviewed the story. I was thankful because I was not quite ready to say goodbye anyway. The book was a delight through and through, but I’m not going to sit here and retell the story, because you really ought to just go read it yourself.
In my perfect world, there would be more illustrated books, and also happier people. Let’s keep writing and illustrating, friends!
